A few months ago, we were told my husband might need a major dental procedure… one that could cost over $5,000.
We even got a second opinion — and heard something similar.
It felt overwhelming.
Not just because of the cost… but because there were no guarantees it would actually help.
When Things Started Getting Worse
He had already tried a procedure before, hoping it would fix things.
But instead of improving, it felt like things were going in the wrong direction.
Meals became uncomfortable.
He started avoiding certain foods — especially anything harder or more textured.
Even eating slowly didn’t seem to help.
His gums felt more sensitive than usual.
Some days they looked irritated, and basic daily routines didn’t feel as easy as they used to.
He also became more self-conscious.
He’d keep a little distance when talking.
Avoid getting too close in conversations.
And started turning down social situations he used to enjoy.
Even at home, I could tell something was off.
He wasn’t as relaxed during meals.
He’d eat less, talk less… and just didn’t seem like himself.
And over time, it began to wear on him.
What used to feel simple — eating, talking, laughing — started to feel like something he had to think about.
He had always taken care of his teeth — which made it even more frustrating.
The Part That Hurt the Most
It wasn’t just physical discomfort.
It was how it affected him.
Less confident.
More withdrawn.
Not quite himself.
Seeing that… was hard.
A Chance Discovery
A few days later, I ran into an old friend at the store.
We started talking, and I shared what had been going on.
She paused… and said,
“Have you seen that Facebook post people are talking about?”
Later that day, she sent it to me.
It explained a simple daily routine people were using to support their gum health in a different way.
We almost ignored it.
After everything we’d already tried, it felt hard to believe something so simple could help.
But something about it stuck with us.
We decided we had nothing to lose and gave it a try. And we are soooo glad we did.
What He Tried and Noticed
It wasn’t complicated.
Just a small habit added to his mornings.
Over the next few weeks, things began to feel more comfortable.
Nothing overnight.
Nothing extreme.
But gradually, he started enjoying meals again…
and feeling more like himself.
More confident.
More relaxed.
That alone made it worth it.
Don’t Wait to Feel Like Yourself Again
For us, the biggest change wasn’t just physical…
It was seeing him smile more.
Speak without hesitation.
Be present in conversations again.
Those small, everyday moments came back — and they mattered more than anything.
If things haven’t been feeling quite right, it may be worth taking a closer look now instead of waiting and wondering.
Curious what he tried?
